Syringe access and distribution programs are responsible for distributing new injection and safer sex materials referrals, medical care and HIV and hepatitis C testing among injection drug users in San Francisco. The goal of this program is to reduce HIV and hepatitis C transmission among IDUs and their partners by providing non-judgmental community based prevention and education services to persons who utilize the access and disposal sites in the City and County of San Francisco. Syringe access and disposal services are provided under the leadership of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation in collaboration with the Asian Pacific Islander Wellness Center, Glide, Homeless Youth Alliance and St. James Infirmary.
Syringe Access & Disposal sites may offer on-site medical care/wound care, HIV testing, access to methadone and other drug treatment, Narcan trainings or other services. Call ahead if there is something specific you need, just to make sure it is available.
